우버, 라이드쉐어링 서비스 우버엑스(uberX)무료 전환

 승객을 차량 및 기사와 연결하는 스마트폰 어플리케이션 기업인 우버테크놀로지(Uber Technologies Inc.)는 서울에서 운영되고 있는 라이드쉐어링(ridesharing) 모델인 우버엑스(uberX)를 무료 전환한다고 밝혔다.  

 

이와 같은 결정은 특히 서울시의 신고포상제로부터 우버 운전자들을 보호하고 이에 따른 부정적인 영향을 줄이기 위해 이루어졌다.

 

우버의 북아시아지역 운영총괄 책임자인 알렌 펜(Allen Penn)대표는 “라이드쉐어링(승차공유)은 전세계에 빠르게 도입되고 있지만, 여전히 새로운 개념으로 많은 국가에서 이를 위한 법률 구조가 아직 정착되지 않았다”며, “우리는 적극적으로 합의를 이끌어 내기 위해 노력할 것이며, 이 과정의 첫걸음으로 우버엑스의 무료전환을 결정했다. 서울시가 이러한 우버의 결정을 서울 시민들에게 우리의 기술을 제공하고자 하는 진심어린 바램의 의미로 받아들여주기를 바라고 있다”고 전했다.

 

우버는 가장 최근 미국의 보스턴과 인도의 캘커타를 포함한 수십개 지역의 정부와 협약을 통해,첨단 기술을 통해 교통문제 해결을 돕기 위해 협력하고 있다. 이러한 협력은 일괄적인 내용이 아닌, 각각 도시의 필요에 맞춰진 내용으로, 최근에는 아시아에서 처음으로 필리핀 정부와 협력하여 라이드쉐어링과 우버의 카풀링 모델인 우버풀(UberPool)을 전면 허용 된 바 있다.  

 

우버는 샌프란시스코와 북경, 라고스를 포함한 전 세계 290개 이상 도시에서 각국 정부와의 협력을 통해 안전하고 효율적인 교통 해법을 제공하고 있다. 우버는 추후 비즈니스 모델의 수정 가능성을 포함, 한국 정부의 니즈를 고려한 규제의 테두리안에서 운영할 수 있기를 기대하고 있다.

Uber Turns Off uberX Fares - Move to Protect Drivers, Work Towards Updated Regulations

 

Uber today announced that it was switching off the fare of its uberX ridesharing service in Seoul.

 

This decision is being made to reduce negative impact on its drivers and driver partners, especially to protect drivers from an anti-ridesharing ordinance by the city that rewards people for reporting drivers to the police.

 

“Ridesharing is being rapidly adopted around the world, but it is still a new concept and regulatory structures not yet established in many countries,” said Allen Penn, head of North Asia operations. “We want to actively work towards a consensus, and the first step to that process is switching off the fare. We hope the City accepts Uber’s decision as indication of our sincere desire to offer our technology to the citizens of Seoul.”

 

Uber has established agreements with dozens of governments, most recently Boston, USA, and Kolkata, India, to help solve transportation issues with cutting edge technology. These agreements are not one-size-fits-all; each one was individually designed to meet the cities’ needs, including the most recent example in the Philippines, where it could be the first government in Asia to fully utilize the benefits of ridesharing and Uber's carpooling feature, UberPool.

 

In over 290 cities, from San Francisco, Beijing, China, to Lagos, Nigeria, Uber provides safe, affordable and efficient transport solutions in partnership with governments. Uber hopes to work towards a regulated framework that considers the Korean government's needs, including possible changes to business model going forward.
